Eataly wins CBC Merit Award

Since its opening December 2, 2013, Eataly Chicago has experienced a revolving door of customers and accolades. Thursday night it received yet another rave review, winning the 2014 Chicago Building Congress Merit Award for Best Interior Buildout.

A one-of-a-kind authentic Italian marketplace, Eataly Chicago’s design was created by OKW Architects, who worked through dozens of alternative planning concepts and multiple design iterations with Eataly’s leadership and in-house design team. Modeled after the open-air Campo de Fiori market in Rome, the two-story Eataly Chicago offers fresh produce, housewares, a Nutella bar, a coffee bar, various food counters and 23 food stations and restaurants.

This remarkable two-story dining and shopping experience was completed within a fast-paced, 26-week construction schedule. Serving as general contractor for the 63,000 square-foot interior build-out, Bulley & Andrews delivered on the aggressive construction schedule. Additionally, the project involved multiple challenges, including the need to reinforce an existing slab to support a 29,000 pound bread oven and two 5,400 pound pizza ovens, and a high-traffic River North site that presented many obstacles.

Requiring a collaborative effort to achieve success, the entire Eataly Chicago team is proud of this exceptional project and the recognition it has received. Project team members include:
