St. Mary of the Angels Dome Repair

The problem:

  • Water infiltration through the clay tile dome into the Sanctuary
  • Inadequate support of the copper cross and other decorative elements
  • Water infiltration through the fiberglass-clad cupola
  • Spalling of the architectural terra cotta spanning the dome
  • Deterioration of open/cracked masonry mortar joints
  • Adhesion failure of perimeter sealant joints

The BAMR solution:

  • Replace all copper flashings at protruding elements, interfaces, transitions
  • Replace steel anchorage and copper cross
  • Remove all cupola fiberglass cladding and install new historical terra cotta
  • Replace all clay tiles spanning the dome
  • Grind and tuckpoint masonry mortar joints
  • Replace perimeter sealant
