The University of Chicago Oriental Institute

Founded in 1919, The Oriental Institute stands as one of the University of Chicago’s most historic buildings on campus. Helping the Institute achieve their goal of being the world’s leading center for the study of ancient Near Eastern civilizations, Bulley & Andrews Masonry Restoration was selected for the building’s facade repairs in 2017.

The project included the building’s window rehabilitation, where BAMR removed leaded, direct set windows and steel framed windows. The team then releaded, sandblasted, cleaned, repainted, and reglazed the windows, and reinstalled them.

BAMR also completed miscellaneous masonry repairs which included: tuckpointing, sealant replacement, stone replacement, steel rehabilitation, stone resetting, and stone cleaning.

The project was completed while the Institute remained open for students and staff.
